Note: This feature will only work if your mobile network carrier can send and deliver international SMS text messages from your location. As always, please share your feedback with us at support@track24.com.
SMS Fallback allows the Smart24 features of Check in, Messages, and Emergency to work when there is no available internet connection, as long as your phone is still capable of sending an international SMS.
The information you send over SMS will be relayed to your Grid monitoring team, and you will then receive an SMS delivery receipt to let you know that your message has been successfully received and processed.
In order to start using SMS Fallback, please follow the below steps:
- Open Smart24
- Tap on the Side Menu
- Tap Settings
- Tap Communication
- Tap SMS Fallback Setup
- Enter your phone number - this is to verify your phone number on your Smart24 app
- Tap Verify - once verified you will then receive an SMS with a code
- Enter the code and tap authorize
Once you have onboarded onto SMS Fallback via this phone verification step, you’ll know when the feature is available through an orange banner at the bottom of the screen:
The banner appears when there is no internet connection (both wifi or mobile) and the SMS icon on the right hand side indicates that SMS Fallback is available from your location.
Caution: Due to SMS reliability issues, unless you receive a delivery receipt in an SMS, you should assume your message has not been delivered and seek alternative means to communicate with your monitoring team.
In order to test SMS Fallback from your location and for your mobile network carrier, you can disable wifi (an option which is usually next to your flight safe mode) and then manually disable ‘mobile data’ from your phone’s settings. Doing this as a test will disable Smart24’s internet connection, and enable SMS Fallback mode.
