All data - including messages and locations - sent from Smart24 to your monitoring team's Grid platform is encrypted in transit using industry standard secure techniques. The techniques we use are the same as the ones you use to connect to a secure website.
This prevents someone from eavesdropping on your communications when you send them to your monitoring team.
Your monitoring team may then access your location or messages (and reply to them) from the Grid which is a secure website hosted on a secure server.
Is this 'end to end' encryption, like WhatsApp?
End to end encryption is a type of encryption in which only specified communicating users in a group can read the messages, using a technique called 'public-private key cryptography'.
Smart24's 'in transit' encryption is not end to end encryption because:
- Privileged users, for instance our support team, may be able to see your messages if they access your monitoring team's Grid platform in order to help them resolve a support request.
- If your monitoring team automatically forward your messages to their mobile phone via SMS, then this part of the message chain is no longer encrypted.
If you have any concerns or questions about Smart24's encryption whatsoever, please get in contact with our support team at support@track24.com.
