Battery consumption can be a concern in any app that uses location services or needs to continually share information with another person.
For Smart24, the main features that consume battery are the Tracking feature and Emergency feature, because these two features have real time location sharing that continues to work when Smart24 is in the background (for instance when your phone is locked).
Our team has optimised these features so that the phone does not 'listen in' constantly to location services, but only when needed, according to the tracking or emergency update interval chosen in Settings.
However, if you need to prolong the battery power on your phone between charges in order to use other apps or the phone itself, then these features should be used only when you need to share changes in your location with your monitoring team. Using them over a period of several hours will generate a noticeable amount of battery consumption.
Our team will continue to optimise the battery consumption of these two features.
With the tracking feature switched off, you should find that Smart24 does not consume a noticeable amount of battery, compared to a typical app such as an email app, or messenger app.
One work around that many travellers consider, is to bring a spare/external battery in order to extend the use of your phone between charges. Also, larger format devices, such as the 'plus' editions of recent iPhones, have larger batteries which in general last longer than the smaller format devices.
