First of all, to get the most out of Smart24 and to help you collaborate with your monitoring team on your safety, you should keep Smart24 running in the background. We recommend to have Smart24 as one of the apps on your phone's Home Screen so that you can make it run by tapping on its app icon.
Sometimes though, you may have the habit of force closing apps if something goes wrong with the app, or in order to save battery power on your phone and cut down distractions.
Two main things happen when you force close Smart24.
- The app loses access to Location Services. This means that any feature that requires access to Location Services (Tracking, Poll, Shake for Emergency) will no longer be working.
- The app stops communicating with the Grid, either by sending data to the Grid, or via Background App Refresh where the Grid asks Smart24 to fetch or send new information.
The Notification Centre continues to work, so as long as notifications are enabled, you will still receive notifications when your monitoring team interacts with you. Tapping or swiping a notification will always power up Smart24.
In the future we will make sure you have a better idea about when Smart24 is running (on both Android and iPhones), and help you to keep it running. An analogy from safety is a Seatbelt in a car: if you fail to use a seatbelt, you receive an audio notification (a warning) to start using it at an appropriate time when the car starts moving.
