Please ensure that the following permissions are enabled while using the Smart24 app:
iOS (iPhone):
- Location services: Settings app -> SMART24 -> Location -> Always.
Smart24 needs access to your location both while using the app (to see your current location on a map) and while the app is in the background (so that features like real-time Tracking and Poll will work). Note that a few days after you start using Smart24, you will receive the following alert on your phone's home screen, for which you'll need to select 'Continue':
- Background App Refresh: Settings app -> SMART24 -> Background App Refresh -> On (enabled by default).
Background app refresh lets Smart24 interact with your monitoring teams Grid server while Smart24 is in the background (eg while your phone is locked). Background app refresh is needed for the Poll location and Remote Management features to work, and it allows your monitoring team to know that their messages have been delivered, even before you open the app to read them.
- Notifications: Settings app -> SMART24 -> Notifications -> Allow Notifications -> On; Sounds, Badge App Icon, Show on Lock Screen > On.
Prominent notifications are strongly recommended so that you know when your monitoring team is trying to contact you. Smart24 also provides you with feedback via 'local notifications' to help you understand when things change in the app. Should you disable notifications, you can still see a 'new message badge' inside the app, and you can see other activity inside the Activity Log.
- Mobile data: On (enabled by default).
Mobile data is needed if you want to be able to send and receive information to and from your monitoring team, like your location or messages, when you have no wifi connection, which would be typical of the situation when you are travelling. If mobile data (or roaming when you are abroad) is switched off, then many features of Smart24 will not fully work when you are on the move without wifi.
Android:
- Smart24 on Android needs access to Location, Notifications, and Phone.
As part of the app registration process for both iOS and Android, you will be asked for permission for Smart24 to access Location Services (and Notifications for iOS), and you should accept.
