The SearchLight module of the Grid monitoring platform was built to enable clients to locate and communicate with their entire workforce during a crisis. This module was designed as a result of the terrorist actions in Europe, forcing organisations to consider their duty of care to staff in historically low risk environments.
SearchLight allows for Smart24 to sit on a user's smartphone, without storing or actively sharing their location throughout the course of a normal day. It is only when a Grid administrator chooses to create a SearchLight region that a user's smartphone may share their location.
The way this works is as follows:
- A SearchLight region is created by the Grid administrator.
- This region will be sent silently to all smartphones on their Grid platform. This SearchLight region will appear as a red circle on the Smart24 map.
- If the user is within that region, then Smart24 will store their location at that time and send it to the platform. If the user is outside that region, then Smart24 will not store their location or send it to the platform.
- If a user is inside the SearchLight region, they will receive an audible notification alerting them. Within the app, they will be able to update their status as 'Safe', 'Need Assistance', or 'Unsure'.
Through the steps above, Track24 ensures that we respect the privacy of staff who are in no way involved with the incident, whilst enabling the organisation to locate and communicate with staff who are in close proximity to the incident.
