Upon selection of the Messages tab, a menu appears alongside the main toolbar which exhibits capacity for different kinds of messaging including Broadcasts, Channels and Direct Messages.
Messaging in AtlasNXT is built on a framework we call '3D Comms,' sharing information across three dimensions: WHO, WHEN & WHERE
Broadcasts
Broadcasts are a way to communicate from the web platform with groups of app users. All previous and scheduled broadcasts are displayed. Broadcasts can be tailored by creating recipient lists of Who (Group or adding selected Individuals) and Where (Site, Country or Custom Location). The When is handled via scheduling. Lists can be one-time use, or saved for future use.
Multiple criteria are also possible such as Who=Sales Staff and Where=Paris office.
Once the recipients are confirmed you can create the actual text. A preview for how the broadcast will be displayed is shown on the right hand side of the screen.
Channels
Channels are custom “group chats” and can be created through the web platform by selecting + Add and then “Create Channel.” Channels can only be created by platform operators, but app users have control over which channels they subscribe to via the ‘Add Channel’ function in the app.
The channel along with its message history disappears if a user leaves a channel, is removed, or if the channel is deleted.
Channels have 2 basic types:
-
Private- a closed group, and members are added individually by the channel creator.
Public- recipients can receive messages based on current location. Adding recipients based on location is optional. In addition, the channel creator can add recipients as permanent channel members, meaning they receive alerts in any situation.
For example, by creating a “New York Sales Hub” channel, the global Sales Director may wish to receive notifications in the channel only when she is visiting New York, whereas the US Sales Director may wish to receive all notifications.
Direct Messages
This is the direct messaging function whereby messages can be sent directly between individual staff members, or between small groups. Direct messages can be initiated via the web application platform or directly through the mobile app.
To select the recipient, simply type the name into the search bar and select the desired recipient from the list that appears below.
